Three totals worth knowing

Adding the sourced figures gives three common totals. The sums are our own arithmetic, in US dollars, before any training:

  • Pass first time, renew by CEUs: $425 + $150 = $575 across the first three-year cycle.
  • One retake, then renew by CEUs: $850 + $150 = $1,000.
  • Pass, then renew with a higher CompTIA certification: $425 plus that exam's own fee, and no CE fee for CySA+ itself.

Renewal is where the totals split. CySA+ is valid for three years and asks for 60 continuing education units (CEUs) in that time; the $150 fee applies when you renew by uploading CEUs (CompTIA CE fees, checked October 2026). Passing the latest CySA+ exam or earning a higher certification, such as SecurityX (how SecurityX compares with CySA+), renews it as well, and CySA+ in turn renews Security+ (CompTIA CE FAQ, checked October 2026). CySA+ renewal options lays out each route.

Retakes are the line you control. CompTIA charges the full price for every attempt and requires a 14-day wait before the third; the CySA+ retake policy has the details, and the CySA+ voucher page explains what bundles sold “with Retake” cover. If you are pricing CySA+ against other SOC analyst credentials, the cybersecurity analyst certifications overview puts them side by side, and the information security analyst pay figures from BLS show the other side of the ledger.

Spend before the exam, not on the second oneTip

A retake costs as much as the first attempt. Before you book, sit the timed CySA+ mock exam and read the score by area; a weak domain found at your desk is cheaper than one found in the test center.
